Julia does this for the happiness and joy she sees in her client's faces when she reveals the final painting. When couples see themselves immortalized at the most romantic moment of their lives, it is clear that they'll be handing this work of art down for generations.

Julia will arrive to your wedding venue early. She'll set up, get a sense of the space, and start painting in some basic background areas. This way guests will see the most interesting parts being brought to life during your reception (people, details, flowers, lighting). Julia will paint through your reception and she will finish it that night for you to take home. If you like, Julia will do a "reveal" on the dance floor to make it a more memorable moment!

About Julia
Julia is an award winning painter as well as a wife and mother of three, living outside of Philadelphia. She graduated with a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and continued her classical art studies with renowned teachers from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She also has a Master's Degree and taught Art History for over 10 years. Julia continues to teach Fine Art Studio courses to students in her local area. Julia owns a brick and mortar space in Haddon Heights called My Fair Trade Lady, where she holds classes and brings fair trade products to market from all over the world.

- NO PACKAGES: A custom live portrait is a luxury service that cannot be broken down into one-size-fits-all packages. Your fee includes a professional live painting experience that will leave you with a satisfying product - whatever that takes. Julia will create your painting at almost any size or shape to accommodate your vision. Do you want an intimate painting with just the two of you? Do you want the architecture or decorations included? Do you want the suggestion of guests in the background? All of these options are available to you with your quoted fee (which is based on the date and the distance from Julia's home) and will be discussed via consultation with Julia upon hire.
- FINISHED PIECE PRESENTED AT THE WEDDING/EVENT: Julia believes that a live painting should be painted live. Most "live painters" are unable to work quickly enough to complete a quality piece on site and need to take it home to finish. This requires additional logistical arrangements, shipping fees, and time. It takes away from the novelty of knowing that the painting was made in real time on your special day. After completing a four year degree in Fine Arts and then working as a professional artist for over 20 years, Julia has the skill and experience to complete your piece on site, allowing your guests to see the final product!! It also allows you to have the final painting revealed to you and your partner toward the end of the event.
- CONSISTENCY: A quality live painter will have a consistently strong portfolio. There are no re-do's when we do something live, so be sure to hire a painter with a proven ability to create quality work EVERY TIME. Beware of low-priced "live painters" who may let you down when your time comes because they simply don't have the skill that can only come with time, regular practice, and experience.
- TRUE PROFESSIONALISM AND RELIABILITY: Wedding vendors can be so hit or miss in terms of how well you can count on them. Julia spent 15 years in education, where professionalism is a key requirement. Painting live at a wedding requires unique talent and a lot of experience, as the artist must work quickly, in unpredictable environments, under immense pressure with hundreds of guests watching closely. How much does a live wedding painting cost? |
The investment you'll make to have Julia Ranson Mooney paint at your wedding will range between $2350 and $2995. This will include the canvas size of your choice - I do not charge based on size. Your investment also includes professional quality artist grade paints and brushes, and over 20 years of experience with an ever-improving method and speed. The painting itself, completed to your satisfaction, will be completed and presented with professionalism at your event, ready for you to hang.

May I decide who is in the painting? What is the fee for additional people (or pets)? |
Absolutely! Some couples prefer that the painting focus solely on the bride and the groom. Others choose to include the entire bridal party or other family members. Julia works to create a painting that matches your vision. Additional true portraits of guests are $95 per person. If you'd simply like a suggestion of guests in the background (rather than true likenesses of specific people), there is a no additional cost. Your vision may change after you book your live painting - simply communicate your request to Julia and she'll accommodate!

What is the deposit to book a live wedding painter? |
Julia requires a $350 deposit to book your wedding date with her. This payment is part of the total, not in addition to the total. The remaining balance may be paid two weeks in advance of the wedding date. However, if you'd rather split it into smaller payments more frequently, Julia is happy to work with you on a payment schedule that works for you.

Whether it's due to lack of availability or budget, I would be honored to create a painting for you after the wedding, using a professional photograph as a reference.
